Summary During September and October 2005 I visited both China and India and this gave me a unique opportunity to look at these two emerging markets.

During both visits I was able to participate in the local debates and share my views with colleagues and customers in these countries through strategic workshops, Roundtables and participations in conferences.

In this report I share my first-hand experiences, covering not just the telecoms and media markets, but also very much the environment in which they operate. Any investment in these markets requires a detailed understanding of this background; this report addresses those issues.

Initially I had the intention of drawing comparisons between China and India, but as I reached a better understanding of the developments in the two countries, these comparisons became less relevant, as the two markets are very different from each other. They have, in fact, very little in common.

To complete the picture, in addition to the statistics I gathered while I was over there, I have included in this report some statistics from the research reports we publish on the two countries.
