Lou Victor : Ford Motor Co May Align With Microsoft

(NAMC) - Early Sunday Morning , January 7, 2006 Lou Victor touched on Ford Motor: Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) is making steps in the right direction in their restructuring process. Ford CEO Alan Mulally may soon be announcing that Ford will offer a Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) based in car communication and entertainment system in a few Ford, Lincoln and perhaps Mercury models mid to late 2007.

According to reports Ford may be looking to implement this system from Microsoft in most of their cars by 2008. This would be the first collaboration between Microsoft and Ford if the deal is announced and could set the stage for companies such as General Motors (NYSE: GM) and DaimlerChrysler (NYSE: DCX) to follow suit.

Microsoft is looking at many ways to keep their edge as Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is creeping up with new and free programs/services for the masses. Now if Microsoft and Ford get this deal done this could lead to Microsoft also supplying Ford cars with streaming music or even Microsoft radio stations, which could have an impact on both Sirius Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) and XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR).

Now the name that Ford would be giving to this new in car system is “Sync”, which is self-explanatory. This is all a part of the North American International Auto Show that is taking place in Detroit, so expect to hear many announcements from all the automakers in the coming days.
