David Kingston : The Battle For ABN AMRO

APRIL 26, 2007 - LOS ANGLES, CA (NAMC) - As mergers and acquisitions continue to take center stage broadbased, the latest battle may be for ABN AMRO. The battle is between a consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland and the British bank Barclays, as of now ABN AMRO is getting geared up to open its books to Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays.

According to reports this includes a standstill provision which will block any bid without the consent of ABN for about a year, so it potentially closes the door on additional suitors but bare in mind that ABN will still have to accept any offer that does come in.

So there is a possibility that other suitors are waiting in the wings to see the outcome, ABN is prime real estate in the financial industry and whatever group acquires it will strengthen their footing on the day of closing. Now how about a United States based financial institution or private equity firm  joining the bidding war, that may be interesting but also realistic.
