NYSE Group, Inc.is a holding company that, through its subsidiaries, operates two securities exchanges: the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NYSE Arca (formerly known as the Archipelago Exchange, or ArcaEx, and the Pacific Exchange). The Company is a provider of securities listing, trading and market data products and services. NYSE Group was formed in connection with the merger of the NYSE and Archipelago, which was completed on March 7, 2006. The NYSE offers liquid marketplace where investors buy and sell listed companies' common stock and other securities. NYSE Arca, an open, all-electronic stock exchange in the United States, enables customers to trade exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and exchange-listed securities. NYSE Arca is also an exchange for trading equity options. The Company also owns two-thirds of the Securities Industry Automation Corporation (SIAC). SIAC is an industry resource providing automation and communications services to the NYSE, AMEX and other organizations to support order processing, trading and the reporting of market information, among other functions. SIAC also provides system support for certain national market system functions and for important regulatory and administrative activities.
