Cardinal is a leading provider of products and services to healthcare providers and manufacturers to help them improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare. As of June 30, 2004, the company's operations were organized into four reporting segments. They are: Pharmaceutical Distribution and Provider Services, Medical Products and Services, Pharmaceutical Technologies and Services and Automation and Information Services. On August 30, 2004, Cardinal announced the creation of a new segment, Clinical Technologies and Services, which will replace the company's Automation and Information Services segment. This new segment will include ALARIS, the company's existing businesses formerly within the Automation and Information Services segment and the company's Clinical Services and Consulting business, which was formerly reported under the Pharmaceutical Distribution and Provider Services segment. In addition, effective first quarter fiscal 2005, Cardinal transferred its Specialty Pharmaceutical Distribution business, formerly included within the Pharmaceutical Distribution and Provider Services segment, to the Medical Products and Services segment.
