Christopher Reeve Foundation Applauds Congress for Standing Up for Those Who Can'tSHORT HILLS, NJ, (NAMC) - The following statement may be attributed to Kathy Lewis, president and CEO of the Christopher Reeve Foundation. "We are thrilled that the United States House of Representatives has listened to the voices of the American people and passed H.R. 3, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. In addition to giving hope to the four million people living with paralysis, the House's bi-partisan support in lifting the arbitrary ban on federally funded stem cell research also holds promise for the millions of others living with disease. "The House's early action on the Act exemplifies the importance of this critical legislation. We look forward to the Senate's consideration on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act and trust that they, again, vote to advance science through the support, and with the oversight, of the federal government. H.R. 3 is good for America, and will help us maintain a leadership role in the global field of science and medicine. "Christopher and Dana Reeve were two of the first activists to recognize the great potential of stem cell research and they dedicated their lives to advancing science through the education of legislators and the American people. Passage of H.R. 3 honors their legacy and is proof that the advocacy efforts they initiated, and the Foundation continues, helps the more than 100 million Americans living with diseases, injury and birth conditions who are depending on the advancement of stem cell research to pave the way for cures and treatments."
