Peter Farrell: Alanco Technolgies Shows Progress While Zebra Technologies Corp Joins RFID Game

CHICAGO, IL, (NAMC) - As more businesses begin to expand on a global scale the need for tracking has increased, more specifically the need for RFID. Evidence of this need is shown with the increase of revenue for a small RFID company by the name of Alanco Technologies (NASDAQ: ALAN). The company announced that they expect their revenue for the first six months of 2007 (ending June 30, 2007) to triple, going from $3.2 million for the first half of 2006 to close to $10.5 million for the first half 2007.

Granted the year just started so this is a pretty bold predication but if the company reaches the milestone that they set out revenue wise then you have good growth although their earnings may not be up to par. But the company is a growth situation and patience is a virtue, at least that is what I hear.

Another company that has jumped into the RFID game is Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA) as they have agreed to acquire all the outstanding shares of one of the leading global providers of active radio frequency identification or RFID based wireless solutions to track and manage enterprise assets, WhereNet Corp.

This acquisition was an all cash deal to the tune of $126 million, now if that is not an indication of the growing need for RFID systems then I do not know what is.

RFID wil continue to be implemented by businesses that ship or deliver products, whether it be software or pharmaceuticals, RFID gives companies some type of control of their inventory.

In the case of Alanco, they actually developed an RFID system for prisons so that they may track inmates, it is straight out of NCIS, but the company needs to comply with various state laws to have a mass deployment of their system. In Europe such systems are already in use but not widely used in the U.S.
